At Chadron High School, Mrs. Carrattini resigned from her position as the foods and nutrition teacher. Some changes were made in Mr. Matt's, Mrs. Budler's, and Mrs. Noble's schedule for next year.
Mr. Matt will be teaching accounting along with his usual computer classes. "I don't think it will really make much difference, I will have the same amount of classes to prepare for," said Mr. Matt. Although he is going to teach a different class, he will remain with the same number of classes to teach as before. Mr. Matt has taught accounting before so it, "will not be a new experience." None of the computer classes will have to be dropped to make room for accounting, there will just be more students in a class.
Mrs. Budler's schedule will go from having accounting and one foods and nutrition's class to having no accounting classes. She will be teaching all of the Family & Consumer Sciences next year. "This means I will be the only FCS teacher in the department, so I will teach all the classes currently being taught in that room," said Mrs. Budler. Those classes include Introduction to FCS, Foods, Nutrition & Wellness, Human Relations & Child Development, Culinary Arts I, and Culinary Arts II. The additional classes won't be a problem, because Mrs. Budler said, "I taught the Human Relations & Child Development class for 17 years!"
Mrs. Noble will be teaching personal finance next year. "I don't think it will be as challenging for me, because I am only taking in one additional class," said Mrs. Noble. She will continue teaching Spanish I and II along with her additional class. Business was Mrs. Noble's original endorsement, so when she heard there was an opening she, "filed as soon as she could." Most of her classes will be fairly full due to her only teaching one block of personal finance.
Mr. Mack, Chadron High School principal, said, "When teachers retire or resign we always look at it as an opportunity to make changes as needed ... or wanted." In this case, the teacher resigned which, "resulted in us having to find a full time FCS teaching, which Mrs. Budler requested to fill along with her current Culinary Classes." This made her schedule too full, which she had to lose her business classes. Mrs. Budler and Mr. Matt split her business classes according to what they taught previously. Swapping the teachers instead of hiring a new one made it, "easier for everyone." They didn't have to have two separate teachers teaching the same class. "It was stress free and fit everyone's needs," said Mr. Mack.

Favorite Flower
There are many unique flowers around the world that people favor the most. Some people might like the Alstroemeria, Anemone, Carnations, or Cherry-Blossoms, just the name a few popular flowers. The high school is filled with many unique people who like very unique flowers.
Taylyn Clark, sophomore student, has a liking to the orange snapdragon flower, "I love the orange color and how it sometimes fades into a pink color towards the end of the petals. Also the scent is very pleasant."
Mrs. Berry adores Hawaii, her favorite flower is the hibiscus flower. "I love tropical flowers, because Hawaii is my favorite vacation spot."
Mrs. Lanphear adores dandelions, "I love how large they can grow and their vibrate color."
"I love peony flowers, because they are large blossoms, but the sad thing is they only survive for a little while," stated Mrs.Paopao.
Mr. Mack favored not only roses, but wild roses, "They're often grown wild around the places I've grown up. I have sentimental memories of riding by on a horse smelling them in the air, stopping to cut a few to bring home."

Spring Choir Concert
On Tuesday April 30, 2019, the 7th, 8th, high school choir, Cedar Street Singers, Jr. Cardinal Singers, and Cardinal Singers all performed. The 7th, 8th, high school choir, and Cedar Street Singers all performed at 6 o'clock p.m. Then at 7 o'clock p.m. the Cardinal Singers, Jr. Cardinal Singers, and some solos and duets were performed as well.
The 7th and 8th grade choir started off the concert with four songs in their set starting with the song "Dona Nobis Pacem," followed by "Fight Song," "Country Roads," and finishing with the song "All Night, All Day." Next the high school choir started their set off with the song, "Dona Nobis Pacem," followed by "Kilinka," and finished the set with the song "Perfect" while joined by the 7th and 8th grade choir. Cedar Street Singers finished off the first concert with their songs "Trouble" and "Rolling in the Deep."
The Cardinal Singers jumped off the beginning of the second concert with singing the National Anthem. They then began their set singing, "Blue Skies," "Fever," "Soul With A Capitol S," "And So It Goes," "Attention," "Pass Me The Jazz," and "Feeling Good. Between the songs the Junior Cardinal Singers sang their Grease & 1650 Broadway Medley set. There were many other solos, duets, and group performances by the students as well. Lateisha Ngoi, Jay Milburn, Drew Milburn, Lauren Collins, Patrick Rust, Maralee Rischling, Taurie Pourier, and 5 Guys Wearing Ties, all showed off their mind blowing talents.

Prom
On Saturday, May 4, Chadron State College hosted the Chadron High School prom, which was held in the Ballroom of CSC. The prom theme this year was Masquerade, and the night included a Grand March at 7:00 p.m., dinner after the Grand March, the dance from 8:30 to midnight, and after prom activities starting at midnight.
To get into prom, each student had to buy a ticket for $13 each, which got them into all of the prom activities. The dinner at prom offered barbecue chicken, mac n' cheese, green beans, salad, a dinner roll, and many different cheesecakes. There was a free photo booth, and a high energy DJ that "likes to keep things fun and upbeat, and has a screen showing videos while you dance," said Mrs. Noble.
The after prom activities consisted of many different inflatables, including 3 big ones, one of them being a velcro wall. Another big part of prom night was the after prom prizes. NWEA Testing
Every year students dread one thing above all others; standardized tests are something public school students have a lot of experience with, and one they have been doing for the longest is called MAPs. MAPs stands for measure of academic placement.
Starting in first grade Chadron Public School students begin taking MAPs tests. This scores their abilities in math, science, language, and reading. These scores are used to show learning growth of students over their school careers. They also show where students stand in comparison to others at their grade level.
Why do we take MAPs tests? Principal Mr. Mack says, "It shows the academic progress of a student's growth," however, students have different thoughts. Many students think MAPs is for state statistics and to rank ourselves against others. It is more accurately, though, to show growth in ourselves rather than compare ourselves to others. Mr. Mack says the reason he likes it is because it only compares the student to themselves, rather than others.
There are multiple points of view on MAPs testing. It seems that students either love it or hate it. Kyanna Fisher, for one, does not enjoy MAPs testing. She thinks it takes time away from in class learning. Hannah Walker says, "MAPS testing is kind of fun, because I get to see if I make progress every year, and I also get out of classes." Spender Blundell shares her opinion, "...though it takes time, I like seeing my progress."
Students find there are many pros to MAPs testing. Many students, like Kyanna feel a sense of accomplishment after completing such a long and tedious test. Hannah thinks, "The best part is that I can ask my teachers questions I didn't know on the test, and then I get to learn from those new answers." Some students like specific parts of the test; Katelyn Diehl, for instance, likes, "testing over mathematics." Spencer says, "The best part is the feeling of knowing something because you were just taught about it."

Baccalaureate Held
Baccalaureate is a faith based honorary program for the graduating seniors.
Baccalaureate was held on Sunday, May 5th, 2019, at 7:00p.m. in the high school auditorium. The ministerial association hosted this event with Immanuel Lutheran Church pastor, Ann Sundberg.
Baccalaureate started off with the band playing as the graduates entered the auditorium. After the band played, Ann Sundberg led everyone in prayer. This was followed by the trio of Abby Hyer, Claire Margetts, Mande Wollesen singing a cover to the song "Never Grow Up" by Taylor Swift. The baccalaureate speaker this year was Ted Tewahade. After prayer, the senior slideshow, was projected on the screen for the graduates and the community.

The Great Winter Debate
At Chadron High School, there are many people who like and dislike winter for many different reasons.
So let's start with the haters of winter just to get the negativity out of the cold air, so to speak.
Adelia Fernau hates winter because it's always cold, and she hates the cold. She can not go to the beach or do anything fun due to the cold and icy roads.
Lucy Biernacki says she dislikes winter because of the cold, icy roads plus getting sick, and regardless if it is snowing she still has to go to school. Lucy lives in Crawford so road conditions are a constant worry for her, whereas, when she lived in a warmer area that was not a concern.
Mande Wolessen says she hates driving in the snow, but really dislikes walking outside and getting the feeling her face is going to fall off because of the cold. Mande said that the school has the worst heating system ever!
Taylyn Clark says she hates winter because it is cold and wet all the time, no matter how hard you try to stay dry the snow gets everywhere.
Karalynn Sierra says she dislikes winter because you are constantly cold and shivering, you can't escape the cold no matter what. She cringes when she hears winter is coming.
All five haters concluded that winter makes them very grouchy because they are constantly cold and shivering which causes their bodies to be achy.
On the more positive side are the lovers of winter, so let's get out of the grouchy funk that the haters put us in and read what the lovers say.
Leah Huber says she loves winter because she can go out in the snow and cold to go cruise her snow mobile and go sled riding. Leah says the best part is winter gets her out of the house more plus it freezes her basement so she gets to sleep in the cold.
Ayla Kephart loves winter because she loves to watch the snow fall, plus it gives her an excuse to stay inside and not go anywhere.
Mrs. Williamson loves winter a lot, not only because of the winter clothing, but she loves how the snow looks, feels, and smells. Mrs. Williamson loves to play in the snow, plus winter makes life sort of slow down.
Hayly Clark loves winter because she can stay at home and drink hot chocolate in front of a warm fire. Hayly says in the winter there is Christmas and snow, plus she doesn't get sunburned as easy as in the summer.
Abigail Hyer loves winter because she can go sledding or stay in and get cozy by the fire. She loves how gorgeous the town looks covered by a blanket of snow. Winter brings Abigail closer to her friends and family by just being together, because they can't go out because of the cold weather.
The five lovers of winter say they love winter because it brings them joy, peace, more family time, happiness; over all, more positive energy.
The conclusion of winter Haters vs. Lovers is that there are good and bad points of this season, so maybe everyone should just enjoy each of the four seasons while they last.
